Ship Manifests
Updated May 20, 2025
These ship manifests come from the Ellis Island Foundation. They can be hard to read. The first shows Pasquale Tomassi (line 18) arriving May 23, 1907 on the Princess Irene (see pic below). He came with $10…about $300 in today’s money. No one else from Sora is listed. However, he did travel with members of the Lippa, Bianchi (in-laws) and Palozzi families from Villavallelonga.

The Princess Irene was a German ship that was “transferred” to the US Navy in 1917, renamed the USS Pocahontas, and used for troop transport. It was sold back to a German company in 1921.
The next manifest shows Angelina “DILARRA” not DiSarra or even Tomassi. She came with daughter, Maria, on April 13, 1910 on the ship “Duca di Genova” (see pic below). She was meeting Pasquale in Rochester NY.

The “Duca di Genova” was built in 1907. It accommodated 80 first, 16 second and 1,740 third class passengers. Her last round-trip was in 1916. She was used as an Italian troopship until 6/2/1918 when she was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean by a German u-boat near Cape Canet, France.
