The Tomassi Family in Sora

We’ve traced nine generations beginning with Pasquale’s paternal great-grandparents, Giovanni (born 1782) and Marta Baldassare (born 1784) to present day Tomasso. Due to size limits there are two separate trees below: 1) Giovanni to Antonio and 2) Antonio to Pasquale. There is a separate page for Pasquale’s extensive maternal Alonzo and Lombardi families.

Giovanni Tomassi to Antonio Tomassi

Recent updates to records from Sora confirm that Pasquale’s father Antonio shows two marriages: 1880 to Francesca Alonzi and 1884 to Maddelena Francesca Alonzo. They were sisters.

Pasquale’s birth certificate of Sept 1884 clearly shows Francesca as his mother.

We do not a date when Francesca died.

According to US marriage records, Maddelena is listed as both Biagio’s and Enrico’s mother and Antonio is their father. Maddelena’s father was Biagio so the Italian naming tradition remains.

Second. Why are there two Anna Maria Tomassis born to Giovanni and Marta about 14 years apart. If a child died infancy the name was commonly given to another child in the family. This preserves the naming traditions in Italian society. However in this case both daughters are alive at the same time and married to different men.
