The name Alonzo (aka Alonzi) has Spanish and German origins, derived from the Visigothic name “Adalfuns,” which means “noble and ready” or “eager for nobility. It is a variant of the name Alfonso, which became popular in Spain and has roots in the region of León.

Spain ruled central and southern Italy from 1504 to 1715 which led to large-scale immigration of soldiers, clergy, viceroys, governors, and their families.

Recent DNA results do show a link to Isabel Garcia Alonzo (Born 1626) in Murcia Spain and married in 1648 into the Moreno Martinez family.
