Italian Citizenship by Descent Changes
In 2025, the Italian Council of Ministers adopted Decree Law No. 36, introducing new legislation to reform the country’s citizenship by descent regulations.
Italian citizenship is now restricted to individuals whose parents or grandparents never relinquished their Italian citizenship. Great grandchildren or 3rd generation are now ineligible.
These changes were approved by the Italian government and signed into law by the President.

This discovery came from DNA submitted to Livingdna.com and FamilyTreedna.com. While these two companies have fewer records than Ancestry they dive deeper into past generations and analyze migrations.
DNA results show almost 4% Iberian origins which may account for the Alonzo family in Sora. This same percentage shows in Patrick Tomasso’s Ancestry results. Separate Alonzo tree is available under FAMILY TREES.
